Found: Clear direction for authors lost on the publishing highway

The number of self-published print and e-books nearly tripled between 2006 and 2011, to more than 235,000 titles, according to Bowker®, the world’s leading provider of bibliographic information and management solutions for publishers, booksellers, and libraries. In its latest report on self-publishing (October 2012), an analysis of data from Bowker® Books In Print and Bowker® Identifier Services, the company found that 43% of all print books published in the U.S. in 2011 were self-published.

The data also found that small presses—publishers that produce ten or fewer titles annually—released more than 34,000 print books between 2006 and 2011, an increase of more than 74 percent. And let’s not forget electronic books. In 2011, 87,201 e-books were self-published.

Now that the stigma once attached to self-published books is all but gone, authors who were once rejected or ignored by large publishing houses are now being actively courted by large companies offering self-publishing support services. But how does an aspiring author avoid paying too much to publish?

We’ve traveled that road; we can jettison you over the roadblocks

Independent authors have become a lucrative market for companies that understand the publishing game. The less the authors know about the publishing process, the more they’ll have to pay for someone else to provide services to them.

As book shepherds, our goal is to teach you to expertly plan and execute the publication of a well-crafted, high-quality book. We guide you through the process, revealing which resources you need and which expenses are necessary—and which ones are not.

We’re here to set you free!

We revere the term “independent author.” Our programs are designed for authors who want the highest return on their investment. If you truly want to become an independent author, consider us your GPS. We can get you where you want to go.
